It is normal for some noise when turning in 4WD. Is this when you are in the mud or snow, or on pavement?

They should be able to replace the tailshaft bearing and seal. It shouldn't be too bad as far as cost.

Let me know if you have other questions and thanks for using 2carpros. Com.

It will make lots of noise on pavement since the wheels all turn at the same speed. It is NOT recommended to use 4WD on dry pavement.

I have noticed that when I put into 4 wheel drive that when I turn the wheels it is making alot of noise like in the transmission or wheels, but when going straight everything seems OK. Not sure if it is transmission problems or potential wheel turning problem. Please help.

When you use the 4wd, are you in the mud, snow? You're not using it on a dry surface?

Let me know.

It is worse on cement, but was also noisey on mud when turning quite sharp. Straight ahead was better I swiitched to nitrogen in the tires and had new oil put in transfer case. The GM garage said they couldn't hear any noise and a transmission garage thought it would get better with Nitrogen in the tires and new oil in transfer case. He could still hear the rubbing type sound and thought maybe in a couple of weeks it would go away with the new oil. So far it is still not the way it should sound. In mu opinion.

If the 4wd works, check u-joints and cv joints. IF it doesn't, check to make sure that the 4wd actuator is working.

Check the trans fluid and make sure it is full. If the check engine light has come on, have the computer scanned to determine if there are any trans codes stored in it.

Hi, when I make a u turn in 2wd I get a grinding noise. You can hear it but it is not loud. When I put it in 4wd and make the u turn it makes a loud boom. Sounds like something broke. It only happens on the left side. I am not sure where the noise is coming from it is up in the left front tire. I kind of wonder if it is the transfer case. Thanks.

Does your vehicle have positive traction?

If so, Is it factory or aftermarket?

You could try, but chances are it won't help. Have you checked to make sure everything is full? Also, does the sound change with speed? I'm starting to question bearings. DOes it change when turning?

I would start by checking the output bearing in the transfer case and the pinion bearing in the front differential. Check to see if there is any play in them.

Let me know what you find.
