I am having problems when the electric motor is performing an automatic restart of the engine. My car will go into auto-stop like normal, then upon restart I can hear the engine cranking to restart, this is unlike the usual quieter restart of the engine after auto-stop. Any ideas?

Hello,

This sounds like you have a starter module going out which it will engage the engine starter instead of using the hybrid engine to start the engine up. I would start by checking the fuses for the system which are ECM/TCM/ SGCM FUSE, 4WD/ESCM FUSE, ECM/TCM FUSE in the fuse panel, Here is a guide to help you get started:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

I have included the engine and hybrid wiring diagrams so we can see how the system works. The reason I think the generator starter module is out is because the car is starting the engine with the engine starter instead of the hybrid motor.

Is the check engine light on or any warning lights?

Check out the diagrams (below).

Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

Cheers, Ken

Hey ken fixed the last problem it was the starter module thanks for the help, now having issues with the radio at first the displaywas coming on and off but the radio still was working eventually the display quit working at all but the radio still worked now ive got nothing the radio does not work at all and the battery died well I replaced the battery with a new one and life was good untill recently im having dead battery problems if I leave the car sit for over 24 hrs without starting and running/driving so im guessing the radio is my draw and needs to be replaced well I called a few junkyards and asked about a used radio but now my concern is that I buy and install the radio and it locks and wont let me start the car due to the theft system, I gave the junkyard my vin and they said I have a U1C coded radio and I found that code on an 2006 saturn ion radio and everything ive seen on the net said they were interchangable but again concerned about the theft system and having to have it towed to the dealership and end up costing me a bunch of dollars
