Electrical problem
1995 Pontiac Sunfire 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

my car has a completely rebuilt engine with approx. 22,000 miles, at same time of I installed a new fuel pump. Problem is a rat chewed up several wires in the wiring harness on the right lower side, just before the computer. I repaired the wiring, paying close attention to color code. The car will turn over, but will not start. We replaced the fuel pump relay in fuse box under hood, car still does not start. It started and ran great before rat chewed wiring. Does anything have to be done to computer before it will start? I disconnected the positive side of battery overnight, I was told computer would reset itself. And car still won't start, Thanks for your help.

Are you getting both spark and fuel to the engine? Will the car start with starting fluid?

The engine has a good spark. There is no power getting to the fuel pump. We disconnect the wiring at fuel tank and use a jumper battery and the fuel pump worked good. Tried to start while jumper battery was powering fuel pump, but engine would not start while doing this. In one of the other Q&A someone had a broken wire (drk grn/white stripe) which powers the fuel relay. One of the wires the rat chewed up was this same wire. I guess I need to check to see if it has been chewed in another place. Thanks.

Hi:
I agree. It sounds like to more than one place. Try checking for continuity from start to finish. Chances are you will find there is a break.

I don't envy you. This can be a pain.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
