I've a 1989 Grand Prix SE. It has a new battery, but every time I turn the key the lights go out and nothing. No crank strain, starter stutter; but all of the electrical works until I turn the key then everything is out. So what's my real problem? I'm thinking it's the alternator or starter stuck in the transmission. Please help. Lamar Jewell

Sounds to me that the starter is jammed into the flywheel or you have a bad ignition switch, which is probably more like it.

Nope, to me it sounds like you have a bad connection at the battery, please go over this guide to help fix it:
