No probs to date w/this car; just noticed yesterday a whirring/whining noise under hood--loud enough to hear over radio. No noise when idling or stopped, no noise when pushing on accelerator when car is in neutral, no noise until speedometer moves above 20mph when accelerating and moving forward. However, if I'm moving forward coasting from a stopped position, no noise. Noise accelerates as I accelerate but when I take my foot off the gas, the noise continues until it winds itself down. If I brake and stop, noise stops immediately. Almost sounds like a blower or fan of some sort. Sound is comparable to a lawn mower or sewing machine. Any ideas before I take it to a repair shop? I'm female and like to go with as much info as possible.

Hard to say, it could be a tensioner pulley bearing, or hub bearing, PS pump, lots of things.

Have mechanic give you a diagnosis and get back to us with their reccomendations.

Take to reputable ASE certified repair shop, avoid chain repair stores.
