I HAVE A 1998 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP IT HAS 173,900 MILES AND A 3.8 TURBO SUPERCHARGED 3800 SERIES II ENGINE. WHEN DRIVING IT WILL SHUT OFF ON IT'S OWN AND NOT RESTART FOR ABOUT 30 MIN. TO AN HOUR THEN IT STARTS FINE AGAIN, I HAD THE COIL PACK CHANGED AS WELL AS THE FUEL PUMP FUEL FILTER SPARK PLUGS, PLUG WIRES AND THE MODULE STILL DOES THE SAME THING ANY KIND OF HELP ON WHAT IT COULD BE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED I WOULD BE HAPPY TO GIVE A GENEROUS DONATION WITH A SUCCESSFUL ANSWER I WOULD RATHER DONATE MONEY TO AN HONEST PERSON THAN TO A MECHANIC THAT JUST WANTS MY MONEY FOR NOTHING.

Your problem sound like a fuel pump resistor which is located behind the washer bottle tank in the right front fender. This is a common problem with the GTP. This resistor(white in color) is much like the old ones used on Chrysler products to lower the current to the ignition coil, it is made out of porclien with a coil of wire in it. Your Vehicle has a 2 speed fuel pump and 2 relays to control it. The hi speed of the pump is controlled down by the fuel pump resistor to slow it down. The resistor can be come very hot and will cause it at some time to break contact between the coiled wire in it causing the Vehicle to stall. As the resistor cools down the contact in the coiled wire reattach and the Vehicle will run again. Your Pontiac Dealer sells the fuel pump resistor as a kit to relocate it to the Firewall, instructions are include. At last Check the Price was about $48.00. You will have to remove the right headlight to access the wire harness to it. Hope this Helps 8)
