my car gets hott on the temp gage but the engine is not hott and the gage goes up and down I changed my thermastat and it does the same thing as before and when it sayes its hott my car will not shut off I can take my key out and every thing it will stay running could u help me out.

Hi, with key in lock position, the vehicle still runs? Check primary voltage to the coil pack, pink wire. Should not be hot with the key off. If no voltage, maybe preignition for some reason?

I'd have to check the temp sending unit for the gage.
