Temp guage problems

I have a 1995 pontiac grand prix se 3.1 the radiator had a crack in it so I replaced it with a new one now the temp guage is stuck above 260 and wont go down also the temp light is also on

Sometimes there is air trapped in the system, any bleeder valves? Does the radiator fan turn-on? Just for testing, remove the thermostat, hook everything back up, run engine for a bit, any change in the temp?

Yes there are 2 beaader valves one upper one lower and yes the fans do turn on after a while the lower hose is cool to the touch and the upper is hot to the touch and no change in the guage its like its stuck all the way up past 260 its that way before the engine even warms up

Did you bleed the system?

There is a temp sending unit, location in the diagram below. One wire connector, green wire. Take the connector loose, you can use a couple different size resistors, one at a time, to see if the temp gage will react properly. If it doesn't, could be something wrong with wiring--connector-- instrument. It could be something wrong with sending unit, I can't be sure without testing.
