trouble code PO717

2002 Pont Grand Am 58,000 4 cyl 2.2 ecotec automatic trans

the car has hard up shift hooked up obd2 scan tool trouble coe PO 717 come up. Car up till that time car drove and shifted fine. Need more information on what to do?

The computer issn't getting a correct speed signal from the ISS (Input speed sensor). IT may be a wiring issue, bad pcm or bad ISS as the likely causes. Most likely the ISS is bad. If the connectors at the pcm and the iss look okay and no obvious wiring damage is there, the sensor is where I would go. IT looks like the transaxle has to be pulled to access it. This may not be a fun thing, I would look hard at the wiring side of it. There is a procedure for testing the iss, but a scan tool the can read its output is needed. You may be able to compare the ohms of a new one and back probe the old to compare them...not sure on that though. Here is the location:
