Electrical problem
2002 Pontiac Grand Am 6 cyl 95000 miles

My 2002 pontiac grand am won't start. I try to start it and get nothing. When I turn the key the dash lights go out and I get nothing it doesn't even crank. I have checked the battery and it is fine. I have also jumped the starter with the key in the run position. It will crank that way but still won't start. This same problem occured a month ago. I went through the same steps, checked the battery, jumped the starter and it fired up when I turned the key. Also the check engine light is on and I don't know why.

TRY CRANKING IT REGULAR WITH THE KEY THEN LEAVE THE KEY IN THE RUN POSITION AND SEE IF THEFT LIGHT FLASHES CONTINUOUSLY OR IT GOES OUT. CHECK BACK WITH US.

I was just seeing if you guys had any more info for me. Like I said the only light that continually flashes is the security light.

Ok heres the deal. You have a security problem. Probably need a ignition cylinder. To get car started right now this is what you have to do. If you do this the car will run. Turn off all accessories, crank engine and leave the key on, the theft light will flash for ten minutes then go out, when it goes out, turn off ignition key wait 10 seconds then start the car. ****This is only a temporary fix, you will have to replace the ignition cylinder, but this will work temporarily.

The ignition cylinder is the actual part that you put the key into. You have to get it from the dealer. When you go to get it you must bring in the registration of the car and your drivers license, they will not give you the parts without them. Very glad to have helped you.
