2000 Pontiac Grand Am Security light on for a while, Engine

Security light is on from time to time. Lately I have a starting problem and I lost the manual. I could start sometimes but starting problem persist. What can I do. Should I send the car to mechanic.

If you cant start it and the security light is on leave the key in the "on" postion for 10 minutes then start it this will go around the pass lock, if the problem persists you will need a new ignition cylinder.
