Is there any way that I can turn off the passive security system. What it's supposed to do is not allow fuel to go into the injectors if you try to start the car without useing a key that it doesn't reckonize. I live in a colder climate area.(Enough said). But when I use my key sometimes the security system kicks in for no apperant reason. Then I have to sit there for ten minutes and pray that it will start. I have a Wife and four year old son that I would prefer not sitting in a freezing cold car until it decides to start. Can I just pull a fuse or realay or something
?

My 99 grand am SE is having basically the same problem. The security light comes on after I try starting it sometimes. It will turn over but won't start. We disconnect one of the battery cables and have to let it sit for several hours. I was wondering if you've gotten this repaired and if you have an idea as to what it is? I live in South Dakota, and go to school in Montana, so I understand the cold weather (-40degrees!).

Actually you can not bypass the theft deterrent sys. Have it scaned for any security codes. Most common problem on the g-am are ignition switch. You can relearn it by starting the car and letting it stall the security light will flash wait till it stops flashing (about 10-12 min)then within 5 seconds turn the key off and then start it and it should start. Post back with any other questions.
