Attempted to bleed the air from the system. At first some fluid came out in periodic spurts, then a somewhat steady stream. Then closed valve. Engine began to overheat again. Reopened valve, some fluid, then nothing but hot air.
What gives?

Remove the radiator cap, start engine, add coolant (50/50) until full, when thermostat opens you should see the coolant moving in the radiator, if not then the waterpump is suspect.

If the engine has overheated, you may have a bad headgasket.

Also make sure the cooling fan is working.
