Starting Problem

I have a 1986 Pontiac Firebird. I parked it for 2 years without starting the vehicle. Now it won't start. It just turns over. Before I parked it, I installed a new engine and the car started on a dime. Is this possibly a fuel problem? A friend said it is the fuel pump, but I do not see how the pump could get damaged by just having the car sit.

It is possibly a fuel problem, if you stored it with a full tank of gas then chances are the pump is corroded and before trying to start it I would replace the fuel filter and drop the tank and clean it out and put in fresh fuel

with that done check for spark and fuel at the fuel rails. Post back if you have spark or fuel or both or neither and we can continue.

Thank You for your reply. I have already tried to start the car, would that cause further problems? I checked for a spark and got a positive result. I will replace the filter and clean out the tank, thanks again

When you disconnect the tank it should drain out the old gas. If you have spark then I can say its fuel related. How much voltage you getting at the fuel pump connector? If your getting voltage then replace the pump, if not check the fuse, relay and wires for cuts and cracks.
