2001 Pontiac Firebird 6 cyl Automatic

Every once in awhile, my car does not want to turn over. First time it happened, thought the batter was dead, so put a battery charger on it. Fired up. So I bought a new battery. About 3 days later, did it again, once again, battery charger started it right up. No problems for 2 or 3 months. Yesterday it did not want to start. I had door buzzer, interior lights, but as soon as I turned the key to accessory mode, I lost all power. If I tried to turn it over (with NO response), once I shut the key back off, 3 seconds later all the gauges would go to the right and back down. Wiggled gear shifter to make sure fully in park and some dash lights (seat belt, check engine, etc) would light up and u could hear a clicking like morse code. We disconnect battery cables, reattached and the car started right up. Got the car home, shut it off and wouldnt start, so repeated battery cables and started up. Next morning it started right up with no issues. I took it to the garage today and they said they ran a scan on it as they thought it was something to do with a computer, but showed nothing. Their stumped and so am I. PLEASE. Any ideas?

The only things I can think of is maybe it's a security isssue thing and it depends if you have the diode key for the ignition or not or a fusible link wire not making good contact on the starter. Or you may be having an issue with the nuetral safety switch not working correctly. Can't think of much else.

Yeah, I have the special key for the ignition (has that little metal piece in it). Im stumped because normally when it does this. It will be fine for another 2 to 4 months. This happened to me on Monday again, and so far Ive had no issues again (knock on wood). I really would love to know what it could be. I cant afford to play guessing games and just start replacing things. Im sure u know parts for these cars arent cheap lol. Thanks for your reply.I'll pass it on to my mechanic :)
