Engine Cooling problem
1993 Pontiac Firebird 6 cyl

I was driving my car on the freeway and I noticed that the water temperature gauge was getting hot. It then cooled down, but rapidly began to heat up again. It continued to do this about every 30-45 seconds. I also noticed that it didn't seem like my cooling fan was kicking in. However, when I pulled over and checked the coolant levels it was bone dry. I'm not completely sure how a car cooling system works, so I was wondering if it's possible that the coolant disappeared because of the fan being broken? I hope I don't have a broken head gasket.

Its dry to the bone where did it go. If its not leaking anywhere externally I suspect its being burn in the cylinders could be due to a blown headgasket, cracked head or block and an intake manifold leak.

Check the oil if its milky looking color if so that's where it went
