1988 Pontiac Firebird car wont crank

Hey. My car starter stoped workign one day so I put a new one in and it still wont work you cant start it from the igntion and I have tryed another and same thing the starter has power and I have checked my netrual safety. But if you try to short it you get a big clunk comign from the starter.

Better check the starter drive pinion might be jammed with the flexplate. Or double check if its the correct starter to use.

I double checked right starter but why can't I start it from the ingniton and where is the starter pinion?

Could be a problem with the igntion switch, the gear selector switch at console at gear selector. There's no starter relay.

By any chance could it be a fusible link?

Check all the fusibile links at the starter battery terminal. Now have helper hold key to start position and check for power at the small purple wire at the starter solenoid.
