I have a 1991 pontiac bonneville 279,000 miles V6 3.8L. It will not start. The engine rotates but won't start. Also has a smell of gas when tring to start it not to bad. It got hot and died and has not started back up. We have replaced almost everything we can think of. The ignition coil, spark plugs and wires, cam shaft sensor ( magnet is fine), crank shaft sensor, all plugs are firing, the injectors are fine, it has pressure in the spark plug holes, theres fuel pressure, theres no water in the engine oil, all spark plugs when pulled are wet (no water on them). The computer is not throwing any trouble codes either. I'm down to nothing. Please help with more possibilities! Could it be the EFI Cold Start Relay and where is it located at on the engine? We have spent quite a bit of money on this car and no luck:(

How hot did it get? Did it shut down on its own?

Check cylinder pressures and note pressure drops. Also if plugs are soaked in fuel something is wrong.

It got as hot as the gauge goes, it shut down on its own. They are not soaked. Went and checked them. Do you think it is beyond repair?

If it got as hot as the gauges go, that can't be good. How come your cooling system didn't cool the engine. I think your car is beyond repair if you changed almost everything.

Sounds like a bad ignition switch. It's in the steering column and will cause those symptoms. Just went through this with my 1997 Chev Blazer, naturally after replacing most of the parts you already mentioned. Lol
