What does the 10 pin electrical connection do? (One is impty) I swapped transmissions with a 97 and the pins in this plug are the wrong shape. Otherwise they look the same. One has round pins and the other flat. Does the cable go to the transmission computer? Could I swap it there?

There are a half dozen ten-pin connectors. Some are black, some are gray, and some are white. The ones I'm more familiar with are for the injectors. Without actually seeing them, I would suggest using the old wiring harness from the transmission you removed. While that ten-pin connector might be different, the plugs to the sensors and solenoid pack are pretty standard from year to year.
