Electrical Failure

I have a 1991 Oldsmobile 98. The problem started while driving the whole car would die for a split second, then would come back on. The readout on the dash would say "Batter Reconnected". Now nothing works, it wont crank, theres no lights. When I open the door the relay for the courtesy lights clicks repeatedly. I've swapped it with one I knew worked and it does the same thing. When I put the key in the ignition with the door open the bell dings but when I turn the key over nothing happens. I assume theres a loose connection somewhere but I have no idea where to start looking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Went out and put the key in, turned it over and nothing happened as usual, but I kept turning it on and off, and it cranked up. It cut off again, but cranked back up and said "Batter Reconnected" on the dashboard read out. Could it be a faulty ignition switch or something?

Hello Mike.

Looks like you have a bad battery connection.
Check the terminals for corrosion disconnect it and clean the posts and connectors then tight them good also check the ground cable to the frame and to the engine make sure that its making a good solid contact.
If the problem persist check the battery for propper voltage and holding capacity.

Let Us Know and good Luck!

Thats what it was, the battery terminals were corroded. But because the battery doesn't have posts, I couldn't see the corrosion without taking the leads loose. Thanks for the help.
