I tested the starter while still in the car by connecting the big connection to one of the little ones on the solenoid with a screwdriver.
It made sparks :-) but the starter turns and engages.
So my guess is the starter is ok.
So. I went on to checking the wiring to the VATS.
On the steering column the only double orange wire I could find that goes up the column seemed ok but. After cuttung and splitting it I measured the resistance going up with the key in the ignition and I got no reading at all. ( My key reads 11.52 and the spare 11.72 ) even when I connected the wires that go to the unit to the keys the security light stays on.
I went to radio shack and bougt the right amount of resistors( as close as I could get 11.56 ) and connected those to the wires going to the unit.
Nothing changed.
Here's the weird part though. When I had the wires cut I tried to start it and for some reason the starter turned once but only once and then it stopped again.
Could this mean I'm messing with the wrong wire?
This is the only double wire on the steering column though.
I'm baffled right now, we really need the car for work and this is getting ugly !
Is there anybody out there that can help me out?
Thanks in advance,
Rob
