Electrical problem
1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Engine Size unknown Front Wheel Drive Automatic 78550 miles

For the past 2 weeks I have had to crank my ignition at least 6 times before the car would start. I assumed that it was the starter. I took it into a shop and they said the starter was fine but I had a bad ignition switch. They replaced it for 340.33 This is a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. Anyway. Less that 2 BLOCKS from the shop I stopped the car to get gas and the SAME problem happened. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

When you turn the key what does it actually do? Does engine crank over but not start? Does it not even crank at all? Does it click and then nothing? Does it start and stall immediately? Get back to us.

It makes no sound when I turn the ignition switch. After about 5-10 times it will go ahead and turn over but before that there is nothing. No clunk. Click. Nothing. The lights and radio and wipers work fine so I ruled out the battery.

Did they replace the ignition switch or ignition cylinder? You could have a combination of the two causing your problem. Try starting it in neutral to eliminate the neutral safety switch. Hope this helps
