1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sizzle sound when starting.

1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

When I turn the key to start my car, nothing happens but a clicking noise. Then all of a sudden there was a sizzle sound and a burning smell, so I disconnected the battery. What is happening?

you should have a pro look at this immediately. You can have a combination of things causing this, It sounds like a starter and solenoid to begin with , bu tyou may have a loose connection as well or a "hot " wire touching someplace. It's good you disconneced the cable......
