1995 Oldsmobile Aurora V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic
NOT YELLING, I LIKE UPPER CASE LETTERS.
I WAS DRIVING THE OTHER DAY IN MINUS ZERO FAHRENHEIT WEATHER. ON THE HIGHWAY
ABOUT 45 MILES FROM MY STARTING POINT, AT 65MPH, THE VEHICLE GOES DEAD. NO POWER NO NOTHING.I WRESTLE THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I AM NOW STOPPED.I DO NOT TURN THE KEY OFF. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK THEN RUN IT DOWN TO THE LOWEST GEAR THEN BACK TO PARK. AFTER A FEW GRINDS IT STARTS AND I GET HOME. 3 DAYS LATER SAME SCENARIO.
BACKGROUND: THE ENGINE SOON LITE COMES ON FROM TIME TO TIME. IF THE LITE IS ON WHEN I SHIFT INTO D OR R FROM PARK I HEAR AND FEEL
A CLUNK. BUT ONLY IF THE LITE IS ON.(THIS HAPPENS WHETHER COLD OR HOT OUTSIDE).
ALSO IN THIS TIME FRAME WHEN I STOP, THE VEHICLE DIES.
TO GET IT GOING AGAIN I RUN IT THROUGH THE GEARS, P TO LOWEST TO P AGAIN AND THEN IT STARTS.(THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON ONLY IN VERY COLD WEATHER).
2 OR 3 YEARS AGO A NEW FUEL PUMP AND FUEL PUMP FILTER WERE INSTALLED.
JUST WONDERING: DO FUEL PUMS TEND TO JUST GO OUT OR CAN THEY SLOWLY GO OUT?
I.E. WORK FOR AWHILE THEN QUIT THEN WORK FOR AWHILE.
THANKS
BUBBA
