I have a 2003 Olds Alero that I am working on and when you turn the key you can here the starter running but it doesnt seem to be engaging the flywheel. I removed the starter and had it tested and it tested good. I even tried a new starter just for good measure but it does the same thing. I checked the flywheel and dont see anything out of the ordinary. Im kind of stumped and could use all the help possible thanx in advance

This doesn't make any sense. Are you sure it is the starter you are hearing? Please advise.

Absolutely positive. It sounds like the flywheel is missing or something. I took the starter back out and checked the flywheel for missing teeth etc. But no luck.

All of the things that would normally cause this problem, you eliminated by changing the starter. I have only seen this once before. The problem there was the center hub of the flywheel had cracked at the crankshaft and the flywheel and torque converter were spinning without the crankshaft. Can you turn your flywheel without turning the engine over?
