99 alero. Yesterday the car wouldn't start. When you turn the key to the on position, the headlights flash, gauges seem to bounce around and the seat belt and service engine light flicker. I can hear the fuel pump load up. When you turn the key to start it, everything goes dead. Is this a passlock problem or some sort of short in the bcm? The security light was flashing for a little while, but now its not. The engine is a 3400 and the battery is at 12.47 volts. I tried jumping across the starter. Minor sparks. There is no clicking at the solenoid when the key is turned. Today what it does is when you to the key to start it nothing happens, but when I shut the key off the gas, tach, speedometer and temp gauges all jump as high as they can go for 3 seconds and then go back to normal. If I put my battery charger directly to the starter and turn the key it will crank over but not start and all of the lights and everything works just fine so I don't think it is the ignition switch. I have power to the fuse box under the hood but not to the inside fuses. The courtesy lights work on the floor but not the dome light

Hi, thanks for the donation. Use a voltatage tester, check the fuse in diagram. You may need to check feed to and from the ignition switch? Passlock shouldn't have any effect on the starter circuit. It very well may hahe an effect on the injector circuit. Did you try cranking in neutral?

I accidentally left the key on for the past day. Put the charger on it and it fired right up. But the problems I was having have been going on for a week. Would completely draining the battery have reset anything in the car to all of a sudden make it start

I don't think so, if you lose battery voltage, it may go into theft lock. That shouldn't effect your starter circuit. You need to be sure the battery has a full charge and the connections are good. That purple wire at the starter solenoid, should be hot, with the key in the crank position.
