Oil drain plug removal

I can't seem to loosen the oil drain plug. I used Vise Grips wrenches sockets to no avail will it turn I'm yet to try a pipe wrench.

Hi ARTY113,

You need to use a socket that is made to remove stripped bolts. I attached a picture of one set. This brand is just the most common. Most all are good so I would go with what is available to you. If you are not clear on how to use it after reading the instructions on the set you find, just look on the internet and there are many videos that show how to use them. I will say, the most important thing is to keep it straight once you get it on the bolt and start to turn it so that it digs in evenly.

Once you get it removed you will obviously need to replace the drain plug.

Also, it may help if you warm the engine up and do it when the oil pan is hot.

Let me know if this doesn't work and we can come up with some other ideas.
