Engine problem
2000 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 72000 miles

Last night, I went to start my car.I turned the key and when my car was about to start.I heard a LOUD explosion and the entire car shook! When my husband opened the hood we were so suprised to see that the manifold had blasted open! It's in shreds! We have no idea what could have happened.I take good care of my car all the time. It's got extremely low miles, we use top of the line fuel, regular tune-ups, oil changes.I can't imagine what happened. No engine light was on previously, no warning. What would cause this and will we have to replace the entire engine?

No you dont have to replace engine. Sometimes with these plastic manifolds, there is the perfect combination of fuel vapors, carbon build up, and bad timing. Its rare but it does happen. I will look into ford bulletins that are not posted to the public and see if there is some kind of problem they are having. I will be right back.

Well on that particular engine there is a problem with the lower intake manifold gaskets causing gas vapors to enter the car. This is probably where your problem originated. So when you have the upper intake replaced, also have them change the lower intake gaskets to the newer design. I always replace the lower gasket when I do this job. I have seen it alot on gm models but not so much in ford. I hope this helps. Feedback and votes are always welcome.
