Hi, I am a seventeen year old mechanic just starting out. I am pretty bright when it comes to cars I already have many ASE certifications. But my moms car has a gremlin in the engine and has had many problems. For starters something is wrong with the electrical system because it has shut off many times, even going 70 mph on E470. We brought it to Meineke spent $1,200.00 and two weeks later it shut off in the middle of a busy intersection. Now the battery wont hold a charge every time I try to start it, it is completely dead, no lights or power locks. It will start right up with a jumpack and I can even shut it off and start it twenty minutes later but overnight the battery drains dead. I have tested the alternator, checked the fuses and also conducted a voltage drop test. All are coming out fine and yet it still wont start. Any suggestions?

Hello,

Glad to see the next generation coming on board. This is definitely a parasitic draw issue. It could be a number of things, but I have included a link to a guide down below. Please go through it and get back to us with what you find out. We can go from there and get this gremlin tracked down.

It is not a parastic draw issue I went through and checked all the things on that list. The alternator has been running funny and my battery gauge spikes and drops every time I hit the throttle. Im going to replace the alternator in the next week and see if that makes a difference. Its running about 30 amps at idle and about 70 amps when I hit the throttle. I know thats low, so we'll see if that fixes the problem.

Hello again,

Okay, double check the associated wiring and the voltage regulator, but in this case the voltage regulator is internal. I have included msome information for you in the diagrams below.

Thanks,
Alex
