I have a 96 audi a4 quattro that cranks but will not start, I checked fuel and spark. I get fuel but no spark. I have replaced plugs, wires, coil pack and crank shaft sensor. The car started fine the previous day, and now nothing. I have checked all the fuses, none are blown. Could this be the cam sensor?

The cam sensor will not make it not start, does the engine sounds normal? It could be a timing chain or belt issue, do a compression test to see if the engine is okay, here is a guide to help you.

The camshaft position sensor in this car works in conjunction with the crank position sensor. Its a magnetic sensor that relays a signal just as the crank shaft position sensor does so I feel as if it was bad would lead to no spark due to not sending the signal to the coil pack. Ive done the compression test and the timing belt has been replaced. The ignition control module I know needs replaced. But I feel as if when I jumpstarted the car I may have blown a relay due to accidentally reverse charging.

If when you jumped the battery backwards you could have shorted out the main computer which is what sometimes happens when this occurs. Check all fuses and try to check for codes.

Please let us know what you find so it will help others.

Best, Ken
