No reverse (sometimes)?

I recently had to replace my driver side CV axle due to a ball joint failure. The car was running fine after that for about two weeks, and I then ran into a code to change my output, speed center, which I did. I have run into a new problem, where my car drives perfectly fine, but sometimes I cannot shift into reverse. It will just start making a loud, whining/grinding sound And I’ll have to shift out of reverse back into it a couple times until it engages.

Hi,

Have you checked the transmission fluid level and condition? Also, are you getting any codes presently? Have you scanned the can bus? If not, if the fluid is full and clean, then check for transmission codes.

Also, (this just popped into my head) make sure the new axle is fully installed and not moving off the splines at the transmission when you shift. If possible, have a person watch how the new axle responds when you hear the noise. The more I think about it, this is more likely the cause. It may simply not be fully seated in the transmission.
