Battery and Brake light

I have a Nissan Sentra 97 135,000 miles. Recently my brake light and battery light come on. When I start the car both lights go on and off for a few seconds and then when I am driving it repeats it. Does this indicate my battery needs replacing or do I need a new alternator?

Could be both one not putting out the other is not taking it. Get both load tested and see what happens.
