1998 Nissan Sentra check engine light is on

When I start to drive, I have a 5 speed, in 1st it is ok, then in 2nd, the car starts to jerk and continues through 3rd

and 4th gear, then the check engine light blinks on and off, then in 5th gear, not much jerking and check engine light stays on, no blinking.
the car has 146,000 miles. Then the engine sounds like a fast churpping sound.
