I just replaced the water pump for my car and it works fine but now I only get heat when I give gas, then when the car is idle the heat cools down until I press the gas again and the air heats up. What can be the problem?

Did you happen to do coolant flush when the water pump was out of the block? Did you "burp" the system?

You may have a plugged up heater core, enough to stop coolant flow to the heater core at idle.
