My son left his headlights on one evening. Battery went dead. Got a jump and drove the car 20 miles back home. We replaced the battery and found the alternator now was not charging and the dash battery light not working.
We replaced the althernator but the car is still not charging and the dash battery indicator light doesnt come on.
From what Ive read the dash battery light must work if the alternator is to charge the battery.
What could be wrong. Thanks.

Check for a blown fuse and also check the warning light bulb if okay do below

Ground the F terminal behind the alternator and tell me if it's charging up.

First. Thanks for the info.
I checked the bulb and its good.
Ill have to wait to ground the F terminal at the alternator because the alternator is in a place where I have to jack up the car way up and remove the splash guard just to get at itfrom underneith
I also think I might have to pull the alternator back out to get at the wires.

Jacked the car way up. Took off the splahguard.
Jumped the F terminal on the alternator and the battery dash light came on.
Took off the alternator and took it to the auto parts shop and put it on a bench test.
Not charging. The voltage regulator in the alternator is bad.
Time to take the alternator back to the place I bought it and have them order a new one.
This time when I get the new one I will have it bench tested before putting it back in the car.
Thanks for the help. Problem solved.
Update:Changed the alternator. Turn ignition on and dash battery light now comes on. Start car and the battery charge light goes off. Alternator is now charging at 14.0.
How stupid to have a system that in some cases when the alternator goes bad the battery charge light will not work. That is the pupose of the no charge light.
