fuel gauge does not work

i have a 1989 nissan 240sx and the fuel gauge does not work the needle is all the way down its nt even on the E wat could be wrong with it

Hello !!
Well start checking the back of the dashboard for a loose connector or wire...
if everything good you have to drop the gas tank and check the Potentiometer (gas level sender unit) or connector.
