Based on your description, it sounds like there may be a problem with the crankshaft position sensor. Often times, when they get hot, the sensor internal winding will expand and cause an error to occur. The result is the engine will shut down or refuse to start.

The best way to determine if the sensor is the issue is to check for spark when the engine refuses to start or if you have a live data scanner, check to see if there is a signal from the crankshaft sensor.
