Gas type/ engine light

I drive a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant with approx. 58,000 miles. I've always used mid-grade or premium gas but a visiting relative wanted to fill my car but did'nt ask what I used. Needless to say they went the cheaper route and filled it with regular. After a few hours of driving, the engine light came on. I checked the owners manual and re :( did the gas cap as it suggested but the light is still on. Could the change in gas be the problem and if so when I take it to be serviced will it cost me my first born child?

I dont think that the switch in gas is doing any harm but it could have possibly clogged one of the sensors. My recommendation is to run to the store and buy a code scanner for your car it will cost around $50 but with the newer cars it will become of much use later on and you will be happy you haveit. Once you get the code come back and post it and we can help further. Good luck :)

I agree. Buy it, use it and return it the next day. Post the code and we will help you find your problem. Sometimes disconnecting the battery for a minute will reset your check engine light. It works on my 98 Eclipse when my sensors go bad, of course if you dont fix the issue first it will bring the light back on.
