Mini Seat Problem

I have a 2003 Mini and the drivers seat was laid back and now it will not come forward - the release lever on the right side of the seat won't release the seat.
If you pull the lever on the left side to allow access to the back seat it comes forward but when you push the seat back it goes back to the reclined position.

 It sounds like you have something stuck in the seat adjustment mechanism. Use a flash light to inspect the inner workings and remove foreign debris as needed. If it seems ok the seat adjuster itself could have failed.
