Sable Power Steering

I have a 1996 Merc Sable 3.0 100,000 Miles, Everythng has been good until the other day the power steering quit working with no warning . No noises , the fluid is ok and the belts are good. is it the pump or could it be something else I am not familiar with rack and pinion steering systems
