My 2001 Mercury Sable will die at low idle when stopped for a while at a stop light or stop sign. The fuel filter has been changed, and the electronic fuel sensor also. If you turn the key off and on 6 or more times without trying to start the car until the
6th time, then the car will start, but will not if you just try to get it to start immediately after it dies.
I have had it to several shops with no success. The car shows no codes. HELP

Hello,

It sounds like there could be an issue with the idle air control valve (IAC).
The IAC controls the engine speed while idling. A malfunctioning or a dirty IAC can prevent the engine from idling properly. It can make it idle high or low or shut down the engine all together.
Over time dirt a debris can build up inside the valve, which restricts air flow. If that restriction is high enough it will stall the engine.
Cleaning out the IAC can help improve the idle quality.

Here is a helpful guide:

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
