1996 Mercury Sable Automatic 120000 miles

Hi I have a 1996 mercury sable that was leaking coolant mechanic had the hose tightened. We picked up the car and again it was leaking coolant and overheated dramatically. We had the heater replaced and the Mechanic told us it was an internal head gasket problem. The car makes lots of noise when you turn the engine off what will this run typically and is it worth replacing? Thanks for any help

it typicaly runs around 1,000.00-1,300.00 and as for if it's worth doing it depends on the owner of the car most people I do the job for usualy are keeping the car for a long time so it's worth it to them and the car usualy runs better than they have had it ever run for them
