2001 Mercury Mountaineer oxygen sensor may be bad

My car is getting very bad fuel milage and sometimes it will jerk a little like it is missing. Lately my check engine light has come on and stays on. Sometimes when I start it I smell fumes also. Can it be my o2 sensor gone bad and how many does a 2001 mercury mountaineer have

Hello,

First off since your engine light is on, go by your local Auto Zone and have them pull codes for you they will do it for free.

Your vehicle possibly has 4 O2 sensors.
