1998 Mazda Protege Engine Size unknown 170000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I have a 1998 Mazda protege that smokes at start up when its cold. This started to happen only after new head gasket and head resurfaced. The check engine light is on, and the AC has gone out. When taken to autozone it was said that there was a vacuum leak, but the auto mechanic is unable to find this leakage. Any ideas?

i will tell you the quickest way to find a vaccum leak.

take a can of carburator cleaner or starting fluid and spray the starting fluid over every part of the engine and vaccum lines, when the idle increases or decreases you have found your leak.
