Hope this makes it to HKLow2008. I think you are on the right track to adjust
the valve noise with shims. Racefan966 said I need to replace the lifters they were hydrolic and bleeding off. When I went to order them they were solid as I had first thought. My question at this point is the lash is out of spec..002 inches on 4 valves, since I drive this auto on short trips now is it ok to just put up with the noise for a few seconds on start-up or is there going to be damage if it is not fixed? Thanks

Jack, thanks for the heads up.

Hi lpeek,

It is ok to put up with the noise as the lash is only slightly out of specs. Theorotically it would affect the performance of the engine but practically you would not notice it at all.

If you wish to replace the shims, you need to measure the thickness of the shim of each valve that is out of specs and get one that is 0.002 inches thicker for each rexpective valve.
