Clunking noise

1998 Mazda Millenia, 94K miles 2.5L V6.
Just recently I have noticed a repetitive "clunking" or "knocking" noise coming from the front left axle area. The noise comes when I turn sharply and/or brake rather sharply. Any idea what this might be?

Check the cv joints. A bad cv joint will clunk when turning. If so replace the whole axle. It's cheaper or just as cheap then to replace the joint.
