Car trouble

I own a 98 mazda 626. It has 128,262 miles and the engine size is 2.0L L4 PFI DOHC 16V. I am having a little trouble under the hood. My car tries to accelerate but it doesn't move. When I place the car in drive and place my foot on the gas pedal, my car sounds like its revving up but the speedometer isn't moving and neither is the car. Could I be having transmission problems or is it another problem?

Hi there,

Simple things first, check that the transmission is actually going into gear, With the engine switch off, watch the selector shaft on the gear box is moving when the shifter is moved, also with engine running in park, check the transmission oil level, if these are OK time to have the transmission checked.
