Ok that is a safety cutoff switch, so it doesnt do additional damage to the engine. We need to establish if the radiator fan is coming on, by hardwiring it to the battery, then we must check the engine coolant temp sensor, if the fan works. Because the car may not be actually overheating, it could be a wrong signal from a faulty engine cooant temp sensor. Of course, before doing all of this we need to make sure we have enough coolant in the system.
