NO BRAKE LIGHTS!

My 626 has no brake lights, it keeps blowing the fuses (15amp), took it to a panel beater a while ago to fix the boot as somone smashed into it. All the lights worked except they put a 30amp fuse in the slot to stop the fuses from blowing. Doing that caused the wires to the brake light switch to melt. I changed the wires and fuse, found the brake light switch is blown so changed that as well. Now its still not working so I believe wires in the wiring loom are melted as well but since taking it out and finding there all ok im out of options. If anyone has any ideas on what else to check I would love to hear them. I have even tried by passing the wires and adding in new but found it still dose not work.

I would look closely at the rear lights where the bulbs go and make sure the wires are not chafed.

At the brake switch depress the switch and check for power on the violet wire if so check the joint box behind left side of dash-no power here check the noise filter also located on left side of dash if power is present, the green and white wire from the joint box to the bulb socket is open-

Hi -

brake lights won't work. The turn signals and reverse lights do work, just the brake lights don't work. We have replaced all the bulbs in the tail light and all fuses. Could it be the brake light switch? Can someone tell me where the brake light switch is located and how to test/change it out?

Hello,

The brake light switch is located by the top of the brake pedal, you can test it using a test light, here is a guide that shows how to test it and a diagram that shows the location (below)

Electrical problem
1997 Mazda 626 Automatic 125000 miles

I recently had a slight front end collision that bumped my car out of alignment, cracked my windshield (air bags deployed, and that pin in my gearshift broke, so I have to use my key to turn it and put it in neutral before starting the ignition) and broke my radiator. All that's been fixed--but now my brake lights don't work. Signal lights, tail lights and park lights still work. Replaced the bulbs, replaced the brake light fuse in my fuse box under my hood. Checked the current, and the tail lights are not receiving any current. What could be the problem?

My brake lights, interior dash lights, parking lights, and liscense plate lights are out. The brake lights work when pedal is pressed, but not when the lights are just on. I have checked the fuses and the tns relay and found they are in working order. I was wondering if the stop light switch could cause all of these things to not work? If so, where is it located so I can switch it out for a new one?

You checked the "tail" fuse under the hood? Go to the TNS realy and be sure you have power at the orange wire with headlight switch in on position, and that both white/blue wires have power. The light green should go to ground when the headlight switch is turned on, if not the headlight switch may be bad.

Brakes problem
1996 Mazda 626 4 cyl

I've checked the fuses, I've checked the bulbs, I've replaced the switch and still my brake lights don't work. Everything works but the brake lights and it's so frustrating. My father in law told me to replace the switch and I did, thinking that, that would be all that needed to be done, only to be disappointed. Someone please help me, I don't know what else to do!

Hi there,

Time to start tracing the power feed, check that power is at both sides of the fuse, check power to hot side off switch, press pedal check power through switch, check power at light plug, if OK check earth, let me know where (if) the power source fails.

This is for my boyfriend's car and he took his car to Midas to see what the problem was (my internet was off for a while and I couldn't get on the internet to see this answer, THANKS!) And they told them they couldn't find out a problem, do you think that maybe they're just being lazy or trying to squeeze money out of him? What is check "earth" mean and how do you know if the fuse is hot or not, if you're inside of the car it's not like you can touch it. Can you explain this step by step for me? Thank you!

H there,

You will need a test light, you can get one at most parts stores that sell basic tools it should only cost a few $, one end will have a clamp this you put on earth (car body or any metal connected to the body) the other is a point when touched on a live wire it will light a globe in the body of the test light, thi sis telling you that the wire has power, so what we need to do is check both sides of the fuse for power, and check the brake light switch for power at & through the switch with the pedal pushed, can you do this first?
