The Park Avenues (PA) of this series (1997 through 2005) have electrically controlled air doors. This is a symptom of the "mode actuator" not working. It is common for a plastic gear inside the HVAC system actuators to crack and then fail to move the doors that control the flow of air. It is also possible for the electrical connection (connector etc.) To be intermittent, or the electronic control module to fail, but not as common.

Unfortunately the "mode" actuator is the most difficult to access of the four actuators on this series of PA. It is the aft-most one of two actuators on the driver's side of the HVAC unit (under dash). It is mounted to the forward side of the aluminum dash substructure under the plastic surface pieces. The service manual recommends removal of the complete dash and steering wheel to access this actuator.

I believe it is possible but difficult to remove and replace this actuator without removing the dash completely or the steering wheel. I am in the process of trying to do that.

I'm having trouble getting my blend door actuator to go back into place. It's the correct actuator. I have seen the link on how to take it out. It's being a bear going back in. Any insight would really help.

Well it suddenly fell right into place. I hooked it up and it's not working correctly still no heat on passenger side. I did check movement before I put it in full range but a bit stiff. Do these have to go in a certain way?

Good evening,

To calibrate the motor, remove the fuse for the AC system for one minute.

Then turn the key to on and wait three minutes. The module will set the motor to the correct position.

Roy, there are a few fuses in the under dash fuse box. Could you please direct me as to which one to pull? This one looks to be the logical one:

Where specifically is the actuator which controls the flow of the heater and A/C located? I have watched the 2CarPros video several times and find that it is not showing this particular vehicle. Is it indeed located behind the glove compartment?

Hello,

In the diagrams down below I have included the description of the HVAC actuators, their locations, and the instructions for the removal and installation of both the passenger and driver side air mix actuators for your vehicle. Please go through these guides and get back to us with how everything turns out. I hope that this helps.

Thanks,
Alex

I ended up disconnecting the battery to get it to reset. Then did the three minute with the key on the on position. I could hear the actuators resetting themselves. So that worked perfectly. Unfortunately the blend door actuator is clicking so i'm assuming there is something stuck inside and I'll have to pull it apart to get at the door to see whats blocking or stuck. Thanks, Don
if anyone just needs to reset Roy's directions worked perfectly. The only difference is I disconnected the battery.
Just know when you disconnect the battery the gas and temperature gauges fall behind the peg and you'll have to take a strong magnet to drag them back around.

The ac is blowing only on the floor and defrost. It is no longer blowing through the dash vents. I installed a new ac door atuator but I can't make it work. Do I need to synchronize this? It was working fine until I took it to a mechanic and had the serpentine belt replaced and the gas gauge repaired. Could the mechanic damaged something when he removed the dash?

Possibly. He may have had to remove the controller and possibly left it unplugged.I cant find any vacuum diagrams for it, so it looks like it is all electrical.I would take the vehicle back to them and ask them to take a look, since it worked before. Unless you want to remove the controller yourself to be sure it is plugged in
